Speaking of Art Pottery…

Ewer, Pauline Pottery

Last month I photographed over 100 examples of Pauline Pottery and other Wisconsin-made art pottery in the collection of the Wisconsin Historical Society. I’ll be adding these to the database in the next couple of months. They will also form the basis of a Wisconsin Art Pottery collection that will be available online from the Wisconsin Historical Museum this spring.

On a related note, there’s an excellent exhibit of early twentieth century art pottery on view at the Milwaukee Art Museum through February 10: “Art and Reform: Sara Galner, The Saturday Evening Girls, and the Paul Revere Pottery.” This show, on loan from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, showcases the work of Sara Galner and other young women who painted pottery to contribute an income to their immigrant households.
